Wisdom Teeth and Oral Surgery

Wisdom teeth are the very last teeth to emerge, usually beginning at between 15 and 20 years of age, however this can vary between individuals.

If the wisdom teeth do not have enough room to erupt, or if infection is a constant occurrence, removal of the problem teeth may be the best solution.

Removing a tooth is done only after every alternative option has been explored and a thorough examination conducted by your dentist.

The method used for extraction varies for each tooth and person. Some teeth can be simply removed under local anaesthesia like any other extraction. Impacted (trapped) teeth will often require a minor surgical procedure to lift the tooth out of the surrounding bone and gum. Surgery may be performed under local anaesthesia or general anaesthesia.

We do not do IV sedation or general anaesthetic.

Following removal of your tooth or teeth, Dr Robert Ayar will give you full post-operative care instructions. No matter what procedure you have, due to the effects of the anaesthetic you will need a friend or family member to drive you home and you should rest for at least a day.
